Vote for Knoxville Trails!

Hi neighbors,
Hopefully you’ve seen this around town already – Knoxville is in the running for a $100,000 grant from Bell Helmets to help build a bike park in south knoxville. Although we’re still working  to get greenways and trails here within Lakemoor Hills, this project is great for all of our great city…and the funding would keep other dollars available for existing trails and connections, such as I.C. King and the Cherokee bluff area.

Please help Knoxville get this  grant – all it takes is a simple internet vote and confirmation in your email. This is big and exciting – you will want to be able to say “We won and my vote helped us win!”

Go to downhilldowntown.com or bellhelmets.com to vote.

Thanks

Reminder: I.C. King Work Day Tomorrow, Nov 22

Hi again!
Just a quick reminder – looks like it will be a nice day to get out and work on our trails tomorrow. We will actually meet in the south side parking lot a little before 9 am. Coffee (thanks to Old City Java) and treats will be there for workers. Lunch at noon will be provided by The Bike Zoo.

All hands welcome!

I.C. King Work Day November 22

Hi everyone,
Although exciting new greenways within the neighborhood are still to come, we have a great trail playground just across the highway. With both the North and South entrances open, I.C. King Park has grown as a fun, close-in option for biking, trail running, dog walking and fishing.

The Appalachian Mountain Bike Club (AMBC) maintains and upgrades the trails and is hosting a Fall Work Day next Saturday, November 22 from 9 am to 12 noon. We’ll be working on the south side building new bridges across some muddy sections and doing the usual clearing and smoothing of trail spots and switchbacks. Clearing along the entry area and road will be a major endeavor as well – designed to make it look more open and welcoming as you pull in.

Any help is appreciated during the work day – bring gloves and water and we’ll gear you up! Chainsaws and brush blade weedeaters are always useful too! Park and gather on the north side for your assignment – there’s a job for everyone!

IC King Trail Work Day February 9

Hi everyone

The next trail work day for IC king is this Sunday February 9 at 9 am. There’s still lots to do from the north side and possibly on the recently re-opened south entrance. We’ll gather at the north parking lot and split up from there. There will be more Brush clearing, shoring up wet spots, and fun stuff like adding boardwalks. Bring gloves and water and we’ll find a tool for you. If you have loppers, chain saws, brush clearing tools, etc – even better!
It’s been really exciting to see the park get some more attention and to see more hikers and bikers than cruisers. Although we’re facing a temporary disruption when Kub runs a gas line across the park, we’ve been assured that the end result will be even better, and the latest discussions have focused on adjusting the line to a less disruptive option.
This should be such an asset to the area in the coming years – eventually connected to the knox-blount greenway and to other park and trail sites. Come on out and see for yourself!
